Protest through Art

During the Yuan dynasty, especially towards the end, Chinese scholars and artists weren’t treated right. They were put in the lowest class status with beggars. The scholars and artists couldn’t express their feelings n writings because they were scared that they would be punished by Kublai Khan or other Mongolians. The only way that they could express how they felt was through paintings. They made traditional Chines paintings with black ink. One big symbol was bamboo. It represented rebellion. There were a lot of paintings like this made. They were all so that the artists and scholars could let out how they felt without being punished.
